YAG laser capsulotomy treats “after cataract” — posterior capsule opacification (PCO). A thin film behind your IOL becomes cloudy, so vision feels like the cataract has come back. Reading blurs again. Lights smear. You may think the lens has failed. The IOL is usually fine; the capsule behind it is the problem. The laser makes a small clear window in that film. It takes a few minutes in clinic. Drops numb the eye. You sit at a machine like a large microscope. It will not fix a dirty or decentred IOL, macular disease, or a new glasses problem. Those need a different exam. We only fire the laser when PCO is the cause.
