The I-LASIK Procedure

Laser vision correction is a procedure that improves vision by permanently changing the shape of the cornea with a laser. Often referred to as I-LASIK, it is the most commonly performed type of Lasik procedure and an effective treatment for vision problems with exception in certain eye cases/conditions.

I-LASIK technology is sophisticated but the surgical procedure is simple, straightforward and only takes minutes.

Vision correction: I-LASIK is a fully customized laser vision correction surgery where the surgery is totally personalized to your eyes.

It is different from conventional LASIK which treats everyone’s eyes based on the same prescription. So if you have a -3.50 prescription, under conventional LASIK your eyes will be treated the same as others whose eyes have the same prescription as you!

For I-LASIK, we map your eye precisely and correct each eye based on the particular eye’s own “map”. This helps minimize halos and gives better night vision compared to conventional LASIK.

Complications of Lasik procedures

The following are some of the more frequently reported complications of LASIK:

  • Surgery induced dry eyes
  • Overcorrection or under-correction
  • Very Low level Vitamin – D Sun sensitivity.
  • Visual acuity fluctuation.
  • Halos or star-bursts around light sources at night.
  • Light sensitivity.
  • Ghost images or double vision.
  • Wrinkles in flap (striae).
  • Decentered ablation.
  • Debris or growth under flap.
  • Thin or buttonhole flap.
  • Induced astigmatism.
  • Corneal Ectasia.
  • Floaters.
  • Epithelium erosion.
  • Posterior vitreous detachment.
  • Macular hole.

However Laser eye treatment does NOT correct : Presbyopia

Presbyopia is a condition in which the lens of the eye loses its ability to focus, making it difficult to see objects up close. Neither standard LASIK nor Zyoptix can correct presbyopia. However, people who have presbyopia will benefit from having their distance vision corrected, and will thus only need glasses for close-up activities.
