A cataract is when the natural lens inside your eye slowly turns cloudy. Light can no longer pass through it cleanly, so everything starts to look faded, hazy or doubled. You probably noticed it slowly. Reading small print got harder. Colours started looking dull and whites started looking yellow. Driving at night became uncomfortable because headlights spread into a glare. Your glasses power kept changing, but nothing ever felt properly sharp again. There is no eye drop, medicine or exercise that clears a cataract. Surgery is the only treatment — and it is one of the safest and most commonly performed operations in the world. A tiny opening
The surgeon makes an opening of about 2mm at the edge of the cornea. It is small enough that it does not need a single stitch.
The cataract is removed
A fine probe softens the cloudy lens using gentle ultrasound and draws it out cleanly.
The new lens goes in
Your chosen lens is folded, passed through the same tiny opening, and opens up into position inside the eye.
Rest, then home

Is cataract surgery painful?
No. The eye is completely numbed using drops, so you will not feel pain. You may feel light pressure and see moving lights or colours during the procedure, which is normal. Most patients are surprised at how quick and comfortable it is.
How long does cataract surgery take?
The surgery itself takes about 15 to 20 minutes for one eye. Including preparation, the procedure and post-operative observation, plan to be at the hospital for around three to four hours in total.
Do I need to stay in hospital overnight?
No. Cataract surgery at Neera Eye Centre is a day-care procedure. You are observed briefly after surgery and go home the same day. You will need someone to accompany you home.
When will I be able to see clearly?
Most patients notice a clear improvement within 24 to 48 hours. Vision continues to sharpen over the next two to four weeks as the eye settles. Your final glasses prescription, if needed, is usually taken after about four weeks.
Will I still need glasses after cataract surgery?
It depends on the lens you choose. A monofocal lens gives clear distance vision but you will need reading glasses. Trifocal and EDOF lenses are designed to reduce glasses dependence for most daily tasks. A toric lens additionally corrects astigmatism.
How much does cataract surgery cost in Delhi?
The cost depends mainly on which intraocular lens you choose and the technique used. Monofocal lenses are the most affordable, while trifocal and toric lenses cost more. We give you a written estimate at your consultation, before any date is fixed.
Can both eyes be operated on the same day?
Usually not. Standard practice is to operate one eye first, allow it to settle, and then do the second eye a few days to a week later. This is the safer approach and lets us fine-tune the second lens calculation.
